It all started when I read an article in the Smithsonian, five minutes ago, about the Spotted Owl still being driven out of the Northwest, even though environmentalists have managed to get logging almost abolished from forests there.
The Spotted Owl is disappearing, not from human insanity, but from adverse behavior from their own kind--the Barred Owl. The Barred Owl is thriving--
But, back on the Chesapeake, which is back over Maryland and Virginia way, the Barred Owl has its own problems dealing with the bigger, more aggressive Great Horned Owl.
So, all owls have their woes. Just like everything else.
Rats! (Which they like to eat. Poor rats. The waste of a good life, being eaten by an owl).
But rats that Mother Nature isn't a gentler teacher.
I love owls, but now I see I know nothing about them.
Except we had them in the woods when I lived in Maryland. They hooted at night. It was a lovely sound, and helped lull the children to sleep.
