This species of incredibly evolved females--
The woman who doesn't run screaming from the Younger Man who comes calling, roses in hand, eyes wide with delight as she accepts his heart throbbing admiration.
It's all over the Internet. There are dating sites. Camille Paglia endorses it...or would if she had time. Germaine Greer...that book she wrote.... The rags run tantalizing bits about whose joined the party.
But Cougars haven't made the cover of Vogue yet. Maybe Anna Wintour doesn't know about Cougars?
Dear dear Anna, I totally understand if you are a little shy on the subject. I do relate. Absolutely.
And I do know you consider the age issue all the time, because you have taken a very public stand on the subject of the underage model, and have proclaimed that none of the models used in Vogue can be younger than sixteen--which I do think you adhere to as best you can.
But so, how about a sexy swing in the other direction?
I suggest Cher. Start with Cher for your first Cougar cover. It would be totally glittery and carnival and hotter than hot. And tasteful as hell, of course, with the presence of the young flame only implied.
Think of the new market you'd garner--the Younger Men who love Cougars. They would flock to snap your magazine up. Because finally, here's the great Vogue telling them what their Cougars really want.
And once again, you've done it, dear Anna. Gone where all the rest of them feared to tread.
Billions, darling Anna. Just waiting.
