Today an answer in the New York Times puzzle was
LOL
As a loyal New York Times crossword solver I protest. I wish to put forth all answers should be restricted to a semblance of the language in which the average New York Times puzzle player is accustomed to using.
I am totally okay with modern idioms. I tolerate abbrevs. and US government agencies.
But I would like to put forth that the current favor of undercooking basic speech to save time while sending imbecilic text messages, should not inch its way over into the art of the crossword puzzle.
Or at least, restrict them to Mondays, the dummy day for puzzles.
